About TeraGrid:
-
TeraGrid is an open scientific discovery infrastructure combining leadership class resources at eleven partner sites to create an integrated, persistent computational resource.
TeraGrid integrates high-performance computers, data resources and tools. Currently, TeraGrid resources include more than a petaflop of computing capability and more than 30 petabytes of online and archival data storage. Researchers can also access more than 100 discipline-specific databases.
-
Who is TeraGrid For:
-
TeraGrid is for users who need access to resources that can not be provided on campus. This would be users who need access to very large parallel jobs, huge amounts of total jobs, or large data access and visualization.
-
CAC's Relationship with TeraGrid:
-
The CAC is U-M campus-wide local resource (Campus Champions) for TeraGrid. You are encouraged to make an appointement with us to guide you though the process of applying and help you with applying to TeraGrid or using the TeraGrid resources when you start using them.
-
Getting Support:
-
The CAC staff is U-M campus-wide local support (Campus Champions) for TeraGrid on the Michigan campus. Questions and requests for support appointements should be directed to:
tg-support@umich.edu
-
Getting an Allocation:
-
TeraGrid requires an allocation to use the resources. For details see the New to TeraGrid Guide.
There are two types of allocations, start up allocations up to 200,000 SU's (Service Unit), which are reviewed quickly. Research allocations for larger numbers of SU's are reviewed 4 times a year. All allocation requests go through TG POPS, the TeraGrid allocation request system.
-
TeraGrid Available Resources:
-
To find available TeraGrid resources when choosing where to request your allocation see the Resource Catalog, or contact tg-support@umich.edu.
-
TeraGrid Training Opportunities:
-
TeraGrid offers training throughout the year listed on the TeraGrid Course Calendar You can also subscribe to the TeraGrid Calender RSS Feed for automatic updates.

What is an SU:
-
For the purpose of comparing SUs on different resources, one TeraGrid SU is defined as one processor-hour of wallclock time on a TeraGrid Phase-1 cluster. Computing power on machines differs significantly. To compare SUs on different platforms, you may use the SU Conversion Calculator.
